Racingfront Northern N/H (Kelso +Doncaster)

KelsoDoncaster

Been another quiet week but a good weekend of racing the North at both Kelso and Doncaster to look forward too.

Kelso stage a 7 race card starting at 13.55 and Doncaster kick off a 7 race card at 13.45.

Starting at Kelso and the 15.05 whixh sees recent impressive Musselburgh scorer CLEVER COOKIE reappearing and he did look one to keep on the right side off however for me a the skinny odds and combined rises in his weights although in the context of this race he seems still well in mean for value .Malcolm Jefferson sends SECRETE STREAM here and this course bumper winner has continued to run well including landing a Wetherby hurdle in December and then running a good 2nd on handicap debut. Irish raider MISTER NIBBLES is a dual bumper winner and he too has continued improving since going over hurdles and his recent Leopordstown victory was another step in the right direction his mark looks pretty fair and no surprise to see him in the mix at the finish. The McCain horse FRANCISCAN was running well last time out at Musselburgh in CLEVER COOKIE race before falling 3 from home,Had already beaten that horse in November when conceding  7 pounds and dishing out a 6 length defeat although safe to say the Niven horse has come on since then.

The 16.50 race sees Sue Smiths Hexham bumper winner MISTER JONES given an excellent chance to score ,he’s taken time to adjust but his most recent run at Catterick hinted at him finally getting the hang of it and his opening handicap mark does not look to much of a burden.James Moffat saddles REDPENDER who won at Ayr last November but has not run well since although this longer trip and the loosening of his mark will help and dangerous to discount. GOREY LANE  has some in and out form but his recent runs at Wetherby and Market Rasen would give him a shout in this ,he did disappoint in between those runs though just to outline how risky he is the jockeys 7 pound claim will help. FUNKY MUNKY has been running quite well on the flat including a December win at Wolverhampton he is a quirk character but has ability and is on a decent mark here in the context of this race.

Over at Doncaster the 14.55 sees Alan King with 2 in the field in LIDAR and TURN OVER SIVOLA and both have more than a decent shout .,LIDAR was a shade disappointing in one of those jumper bumper races at end of January ,however he doeshave some decent form including a win in a chase at Haydock in 2012, for me though TURN OVER SIVOLA who stable jockey has chosen is the one to be with here a really good hurdler and multiple winner he has shown he’s just as adept over chase fences and although a little frustrating this term still some good runs in defeat ,with the stable now firing I expect the improvement to come here .SWIFT ARROW won well at Musselburgh in February however this is a massive step up but cannot be discounted.

The Grimthorpe chase at 15.30 over 3 m 2 f will see Grand National hope MONBEG DUDE continue his prep for the big race and hes certainly in good form having won at Cheltenham in December for which he got a rise of 8 pounds . Emma Lavelles COURT BY SURPRISE has won his only chase here and has posted some decent runs in defeat and with Geraghty on board expect him to be in this at the finish. Last years Scottish Grand national winner GODSMEJUDGE who ran well first time out but like a lot of the stables horses he looked a bit out of sorts on his last run at Sandown, questions if this will be far enough but he will be coming to hand  and could manage a place .

KELSO 15.05  CLEVER COOKIE 13/8 (5 PTS WIN)      FRANCISCAN 8/1 (1 PT E/W)

KELSO  16.50 MISTER JONES 13/2 (4 PTS WIN)          GOREY LANE 14/1 (1 PT E/W)

DONCASTER 14.55 TURN OVER SIVOLA 15/2 (4 PTS WIN)     LIDAR 7/1 (1 PT E/W)

DONCASTER 15.30 COURT BY SURPRISE 11/2 (4 PTS WIN)   GODSMEJUDGE 10/1 (1 PT E/W)

Racingfront Northern N/H (Musselburgh 24/2/14)

Musselburgh

Sunday started well with a nice winner in DROMBEG WEST at an advised 9/1 ,that cleared the day with a small profit ,we were awaiting any of the other 2 for our nice double QUITE BY CHANCE 8/1(advised e/w) finished 2nd and THE GAME IS A FOOT finished 3rd advised at 11/2 ,so close to a nice payday but just not close enough.Still a 10 points profit on the day .

Monday sees Musselburgh stage its last National Hunt meeting of their season before their flat season begins in April.

The 14.20 sees Donald McCains recent Wetherby winner ROCKY STONE looking to follow-up ,he had won an Irish Point earlier in his career and seemed to relish the extra distance last time out and a 5 pound rise seems about right for that battling victory.SILVER DRAGON was ticking along nicely having won a race at Uttoxeter in October then ran a good race when 3rd in a hot little race at Wetherby, was a major disappointment on Boxing day at Market Rasen where obviously something went amiss,he then had a couple of months off but returned with a 4th in one of those NH flat events at Southwell last week which should signal all is ok after his boxing day run, I imagine they have brought him here for the decent ground as he prefers good ground. The Corbett team bring Ex – Irish horse BALLYREESODE on the trip here in search of decent ground this fella won 2 handicaps in Ireland in April 2013 for his yard and when he came here he was rated 105 he has not shown much since arriving on these shores however he obviously has ability and has now dropped to a mark that it would be foolish to overlook him despite his recent form figures . ANOTHER DIMENSION for Rose Dobbin is another whose past form in 2011 gives him a squeak,I remember seeing him win a novice hurdle at Kelso in May 2011 and he looked a decent prospect ,he has obviously had problems and not run much since then with a 630 day absence at one point before his recent 3 runs ,has shown in his last couple of runs that he may just retain some of that ability and his mark has dropped quite dramatically.

The 16.20 sees a horse I missed last time out here at Musselburgh when he bolted in by a wide margin BLUE KASCADE was one I had noted but convinced myself it would be chasing before he made his mark , I was wrong !! he fairly bolted up by 10 lengths and I fancy even the 10 pound rise will not stop him following up here for the In form Thomson yard. Having said that in Willie Coltherds SHAN VALLEY he has a dangerous opponent he looked likely to win last time out at Wetherby until she made a last flight error , only 8 years old and a previous winner for Mick Easterby she looks sure to run a big race of her present mark. Dianne Sayers NEWDANE DANCER done us a turn in a seller at Catterick just after Christmas and was raised  8 pounds for that she ran a decent race in a handicap after that and got a further 3 pound rise so she’s now 11 pounds higher than when she won the seller and this is a harder race with the previous two i  mentioned however she is in good heart and I would not discount. One other who attracted a fair bit of money on his stable debut here was PAIRC NA LEASA for Martin Todhunter he was never really going too well and ended up midfield ,his Irish form however would suggest he is better than that and with Challoner taking 5 pounds off I expect a better showing this time around.

MUSSELBURGH 14.20   ROCKY STONE 7/2 (4 PTS WIN) ANOTHER DIMENSION 14/1(1 PT E/W)                                                                                                        BALLYREESODE 20/1 (1 PT E/W)

MUSSELBURGH 16.20   BLUE KASCADE  7/2 (4 PTS WIN)  PAIRC NA LEASA  12/1 (2 PTS E/W)

ROCKY STONE + BLUE KASCADE ( 2 PT DBL )

ANOTHER DIMENSION + PAIRC NA LEASA (1 PT E/W DBL)

20 POINTS STAKED .

14 POINT LOSS .

Racingfront Northern N/H(Towc+Font 23/2/14)

National Hunt

Saturday proved to be a very frustrating day with 3 selections finishing 2nd  ,and we had 2 finish 4th all at decent odds so it was a case of close but not close enough which can and does prove expensive!!

Onto Sunday and in all honesty some moderate racing however as we have seen previously moderate can mean profit so here’s hoping .

We will keep with the theme and look at the 2 mile selling hurdle 230 at Towcester ,a limited appeal race with a field of generally unreliable sorts and I’m going to the foot of the handicap where we have recent winner  PEQENO DIABLO the fact he is a recent winner is as good a recommendation as any in this , he made all at Fontwell on Boxing day over 2 mile 4 furlongs on heavy going and I would envisage a similar plan here ,arguably that race although only a 5 runner field was better than this ,was raised 5 pounds for that and was rather found out last time although that was definitely a stronger race , Gerald Quinn takes 7 pounds off and he is weighted to run free in this. The other one for me is at the bottom of the handicap and admittedly his form figures of 56096 do not inspire too much confidence however closer inspection sees  former point winner DROMBEG WEST has been running not too bad to a point in these previous races ,he was well supported in both his previous races both handicaps and both better grade than this, the booking of Andrew Tinkler of bottom weight and 4 pounds out the handicap suggest 1 more try for this fella in this bottom grade of race.

Over to Fontwell and the 450 race and one of the only real betting propositions on the card for me . PROUD TIMES has been in fantastic form this term winning 4 of his last 5 races but he now finds himself 15 pounds higher than when winning at Uttoxeter in November. CLONLUSKER beat GOOCHYPOOCHYPRADER by 11 lengths at Plumpton in January and has been hiked a 14 pounds for that while the latter remains on same mark so they should finish closer and GOOCHYPOOCHYPRADER has won here previously back in April last year he is though very inconsistent and I would prefer CLONLUSKER to improve again and still hold sway with these two.The Moore horse THE GAME IS A FOOT  was in good form at the tail end of 2013 and finished a decent 4th on return from a short break at Warwick and must be considered a player in this and the stable have won this twice in the last 6 years . Top weight form the Tizzard yard is QUITE BY CHANCE and he had run a couple of decent 3rd in Bumpers before a 2nd and 3rd in Novice hurdles ,he then went and contested a decent race at Cheltenham where he was in touch until 3 from home ,he then disappointed at Wincanton after a short lay off however i do not think that was his true running and he has now dropped 6 pounds to a more realistic mark and it would be no shock to see him on the premises here.

TOWCESTER 230  PEQENO DIABLO  8/1 (4 PTS WIN)    DROMBEG WEST  9/1 (2 PTS E/W)

FONTWELL  450  THE GAME IS A FOOT 11/2 (4 PTS WIN)   QUITE BY CHANCE 8/1 (2 PTS E/W)

PEQENO DIABLO + THE GAME IS A FOOT (1 PT DBL)

PEQENO DIABLO + QUITE BY CHANCE (1 PT DBL)

DROMBEG WEST + THE GAME IS A FOOT (1 PT DBL)

DROMBEG WEST + QUITE BY CHANCE (1 PT DBL)

20 POINTS STAKED.

Racingfront Northern N/H (Saturday H’caps)

Newcastle

Thursday was bit of a disaster with only Scimon Templar doing anything at all but 2nd is nothing unfortunately.

Anyway onto Saturday and Eider Chase day at Newcastle and that will be a proper test of stamina.

Thats where to start with Saturday the 255 at Newcastle the Eider Chase over 4 miles 1 furlong and sure to take a bit of getting in the Heavy going(soft in places) .Recent dual scorer SUN CLOUD has certainly hit a purple patch winning at Hexham  by 7 L then following up at Catterick by 11L he now finds himself 22 pounds higher than his initial win and 12 pounds higher than his last win which may be his undoing however won so well last time it would be dangerous to rule him out completely.Oliver Sherwood sends FINANCIAL CLIMATE north for this stamina test and he’s been a model of consistency winning at Newbury in December over 3 miles 2 f  where he returned to finish 3rd against good opposition this test of stamina will suit him and the same can be said for SAFFRON DE COTTE who has not really shone this term as of yet but looked more like himself last time out at Warwick when finishing 6th ,remains well weighted if he can recapture old sparkle. Johnjo has thorough stayer SMOKING ACES in and since he won a 29furlong race at Fairyhouse back in December 2011 he has only seen a racecourse 7 times which would indicate he has had problems however his last 3 runs the first two of which he would have been entitled to need have shown he is heading in the right direction and this could be ready-made test for him.

Kempton 350 race a Handicap chase over 3 miles and Paul Nicholls recent Ascot 1/2 BURY PARADE and GRANDIOSO face up to each other here again and both should go well although BURY PARADE has gone up 9 pounds to 152 and it will be some performance to win this from that type of mark,GRANDIOSO remains on 147  but unsure if this step up in trip will play to his strengths on this type of ground. Alan King also runs two and I much prefer Chocs choice of MIDNIGHT APPEAL he won a good race on his return at Bangor beating a couple of decent sorts who have really franked the form since , he then struggled over the National fences in December before posting a good run here to finish 2nd at start of the month and with stable back in good form I  expect him to return to his best here. The Skelton team have a good chance with BAILE ANRAI who won a race at Leicester before finishing 2nd in the Skybet chase at Doncaster he’s up another 5 pounds for that but remains in good heart and still at the right end of the handicap.

Chepstow has a good 2 mile handicap at 305 and again the heavy ground will play a part and Richard Lee’s talented chaser GREY GOLD will relish the going having won a good chase at Sandown against a horse rated 147 in the process he is up 7 pounds for that  but is one to keep on the right side off .POOLE MASTER took advantage of a lowly mark and drop in class to win  by a wide margin at Ffos Llas ,he has been put up 11 pounds for that and this is a stiffer test for sure but he does relish the going .Our old favourite GUS MACRAE return to the minimum distance having failed to shine over 2 miles 5 f last time out ,easy to dismiss that race and better to focus on the one before that where he finished 2nd at Ascot a race where GREY GOLD finished 3rd  4 lengths behind GUS MACRAE and in fact strictly on the book he is 7 pound better of if you include 5 pound claimer .The Hobbs trained AL ALFA is another horse I like and despite a 9 pound rise for his confidence boosting easy Taunton win I would not discount a good run here.

The opener at Kempton is a 2 miles 4 furlong chase and SUNNY LEDGEND drops back to a more realistic target after contesting a grade 1 at Ascot last week ,his previous race at Towcester where he finished 2nd was his first run in 10 months and looked decent enough ,this is more realistic, recent Ascot winner BALLINVARRIG looked a horse on the upgrade on that occasion and although raised 5 pounds he will still be up to running well here , ex Alan King  inmate BALZACCIO is now with Fergal O’Brien and ran a good 3rd on his first start for the yard at Wincanton in November that was his first run in 10 months he is definitely well weighted on the best of his form for King however I’d be slightly worried about the going for him.

NEWCASTLE 2.55 SMOKING ACES 7/1  (3 PTS WIN)   SAFFRAN DE COTTE 10/1 (1 PT E/W)

KEMPTON 3.50   MIDNIGHT APPEAL 16/1 (1 PT E/W)   BAILE ANRAI  14/1 (1 PT E/W)

CHEPSTOW 3.05  GREY GOLD 4/1 (3 PTS WIN)   GUS MACRAE 10/1 (1 PT E/W)

KEMPTON  1.30  BALLINVARRIG  7/2 (4 PTS WIN)   SUNNY LEDGEND 10/1 (1 PT E/W)

20 POINTS STAKED .

LOSS OF 16.5 POINTS

Racingfront Northern N/H(Ayr+Sedgefield 20/2/14)

Ayrsedgefield races

Ayr and Sedgefield 2 cracking Northern N/H courses well worth a visit .

A decent day on Wednesday thanks mainly to the Alan King horse SEVENTH SIGN who obliged at a very nice 22/1 , we also selected TIME FOR RUPERT e/w and he finished a gallant 2nd at advised odds of 10/1 although he was well gambled on the day and ended up 4/1 fav ,a good example of why reading the blog and taking BOG is the way to go.

Onto Ayr and Sedgefield on Thursday and some competitive races to have a look at starting with Ayr’s 15.20 class 5 hurdle over 2miles , DOUBLE WHAMMY was a fair maiden at both codes when with Jamie Poulton and ended his time there with a lingfield third that was 763 days ago though and new trainer Ian Jardine has admitted he’s been a hard one to get right ,without doubt though has talent in this sphere and the booking of Maguire is interesting although I will only be watching him today. ROSQUERO showed the real first signs of ability last time out at Newcastle when finishing 3rd where SCIMON TEMPLAR was 2nd 7 lengths ahead of him ,the visor has now been removed and cheekpeices fitted comes from a shrewd stable and no surprise to see him thereabouts now he seems to be getting the hang of it, speaking of SCIMON TEMPLAR he ran well for a long way over 2 m 4 f last time out here before finishing 4th ,this return to 2 miles should help him, the Lucinda Russell trained THE STARBOARD BOW finished closer to the same 2 horses at Ayr in January again over 2 m 4 f and similarly this drop back to 2 miles should help as he travelled really well for a long way on that occasion, that was only his 2nd race in 2 years and he is looking very nicely handicapped now.

The 1620 has cut up to a 5 runner field but some decent quality , THE FRIARY had won a small race at Hexham but then looked quite at pains when finishing 3rd of 5 at Carlisle on heavy going off his new mark, The other Russell runner OUTLAW TOM has been a great servant and ran some really cracking races however his 3 runs this term have been lacklustre and a watching brief today.Irish raider MISTER PHILSON for Stuart Crawford Won at Hexham last April but had looked out of sorts on 3 of his runs this term howver his most recent run at Down Royal was better and he may be coming to himself again. That leaves the 2 market leader OIL BURNER for Willie Amos at the bottom of the weights who fairly bolted up on his last run here when scoring by 10 lengths and he has been duly put up 10 pounds for that success,he is not the most trustworthy though and has the tendency to be in and out of form, the McCain trained KNOCKGRAFFON KING done us a good turn last time out at Newcastle in a grade 3 chase having been heavily supported a rise of 6 pounds may not stop him progressing further.

The Sedgefield 15.00 for me is all bout the Sue Smith trained STAGECOACH JASPER and how he jumps,a very good 2nd on chasing debut he has since fallen 4 times and remains a bit of a risky proposition ,however Mrs Smith knows these Sedgefield fences are some of the easiest around and he is so well handicapped it has to be worth risking his jumping frailties here on this occasion. The John Wade trained MANNERED won a 2 horse race on boxing day 2012 and has been mostly disappointing since but his most recent run at Catterick where he finished 3rd was a bit more like it and if he can build on the and with John Dawson taking 7 pounds he must have a squeak. WAVE BREAKER is consistent and looks more at home when chasing and his recent 3rd here certainly was a step in right direction. The Smith yard have set a poser by running WHISKEY RIDGE who was subject of a heavy gamble last time out but pulled up before 4 out and this seems to have been his story as he has failed to finish on 3 out of last 4 runs, going back to last May this fella won by 23 lengths at Wetherby and if he could reproduce that form then he’s right in this and some obviously fancied him to do just that last time out.

AYR 15.20  SCIMON TEMPLAR  9/2 (3 PTS WIN)     THE STARBOARD BOW 10/1 (2PTS E/W)

AYR  16.20  KNOCKGRAFFON KING  2/1 (4 PTS WIN)

SEDGEFIELD  15.00 STAGECOACH JASPER  100/30 (3 PTS WIN)  WAVE BREAKER 8/1 (2 PTS E/W)

SCIMON TEMPLAR + ,KNOCKGRAFFON KING +,STAGECOACH JASPER  (2 PTS TREBLE)

THE STARBOARD BOW + WAVE BREAKER ( 1 PT E/W DOUBLE)

20 POINTS STAKED

LOSS OF 20 POINTS NO RETURNS.

Racingfront Northern N/H (Doncaster 19/2/14)

Doncaster

Sunday at Market Rasen proved to be a good day with 2 nice winners from the 3 highlighted races with NEW YEARS EVE 9/4 and JOIN THE CLAN 7/1(before the predicted withdrawals) and both these races gave us 1st and 2nd with the highlighted horses for two nice forecasts.

Doncaster provide a good midweek card on Wednesday and some decent types on show for a midweek fixture.

The 3 miles handicap at 1525 sees a few former top-notch veterans lining up and the public just love these type of races with some stars of yesterday lining up.MASSINIS MAGUIRE  tends to go really well when fresh however at 13 and having been off for 732 days this would be some performance even by his high standards, was last seen when winning a listed race at Ascot. Former top class hurdler TIME FOR RUPERT ran in the Long walk hurdle where he folded quickly ,he then turned out here in the Skybet chase where he ran ok for a long way,he is dangerously well handicapped now and is a comparative youngster at 10 years old in this.Another 10 year old with a chance is AACHEN who won this type of race at Sandown in February that was only his 2nd run in 18 months and he certainly comes here with a big chance, major query will he stay the extra distance, not a good record at 3 miles. The Moore horse FRUITY O’ROONEY ran a blinder at the festival last year when finishing 5th in a grade 3 chase considering that was only 12 months ago and his recent run at the start of this month should have put him spot on for this and a dropping mark these things together must give him a big chance.

The 15.55 is a 3 mile Hurdle and a pretty open contest .Phil Kirbys yard remains in good form and he saddles MATTHEW RILEY whose recent 2nd at Haydock was a big step forward on his opening outing and there is every chance with the yard going so well this one will be in the shake up, Another stable beginning to come to form is Alan Kings yard and he has SEVENTH SIGN who was triple winner on the flat in Ireland 2012,he then won twice for this yard at Newbury and Chepstow, like a lot of the yards horses he has not looked himself so far this term but with the yard on the up I expect him to improve in this. KRAYSBERG won here in January but is up 7 pounds for that and this is a better race , but he is certainly going the correct way.Rebecca Curtis sends POTTERS CROSS on the long journey in search of decent ground, had some decent novice form which included a 9 length win at Ffos Llas ,he then contested a couple of grade 2 Novice hurdles and ran well enough in both finishing 3rd and 4th respectively he now drops 4 pounds and has a 5 pound claimer all of which should make him a big danger in this .

DONCASTER  1525  FRUITY O’ROONEY 6/1 (4 PTS WIN)   TIME FOR RUPERT 10/1 (2 PTS E.W)

DONCASTER 1555   POTTERS CROSS  5/1 ( 3PTS WIN)    MATTHEW RILEY  5/1 (3 PTS WIN)

SEVENTH SIGN 18/1  (1 PT E/W)

FRUITY O’ROONEY + POTTERS CROSS

FRUITY O’ROONEY + MATTHEW RILEY

TIME FOR RUPERT + POTTERS CROSS

TIME FOR RUPERT + MATHEW RILEY

4 X 1 PT DOUBLES.

20 POINTS STAKED .

15.5 POINTS PROFIT .

Racingfront Northern N/H (Market Rasen 16/2)

Market Rasen

Sorry about lack of blogs due to time constraints, hopefully a few twitter followers managed to get the two good priced winners on Saturday with recent Musselburgh winner SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT obliging at 13/2 and OCKEY DE NUELLIAC winning the Hunter chase at 8/1 ,along with KAKI DE LA PREE 2nd at 11/1 and LOCH BA 3RD at 9/1 both advised E/W ,not a bad return on the day.

Market Rasen takes centre stage for National Hunt racing on Sunday and a decent little card to enjoy.

The 14.20 race sees recent easy Catterick scorer MAGIC SKYLNE reappear here for the Ellison yard ,he won by 14 lengths that day and has been raised only 5 pounds for it ,has only had 4 runs over hurdles but was a fair maiden on the flat.speaking of flat the O’neill trained ROSSLYN CASTLE was with Roger Charlton on the level and won a couple of races at Warwick and Chester ,has been disappointing so far at this game but you have to think he does possess more ability than he has shown in his last 2 runs since returning form a lay off, would be no surprise to see him figure off this mark. RUN RUCTIONS RUN was upped in grade last time and ran a good 2nd ,this bumper winner seems to be learning and  improving with each run he has but is creeping up the rankings so Craig Nichols claim will be a big help .Course and distance winner KING ZEAL took advantage of a lower mark to win here in December then posted a couple of poor runs before looking more like himself at Warwick last time out where he led for along way before being caught just before the last but stayed on for 2nd. The Symonds yard send STRAITS OF MESSINA who had won at Fakenham in January ,he fell on his last outing at 5 from home when in midfield.

The 14.50 has our recent Musselburgh winner RUMBLE OF THUNDER back on the track has been raised 4 pounds for that victory which seems fair enough and with the stable in good form i expect another good run .Top novice NEW YEARS EVE has looked good in those type of races but struggled in handicap company at Musselburgh on New Years Day this is further but he ought to see it out.The Eustace horse WILY FOX was disappointing last time out but does have form to his name that would make him competitive here if in the mood.

The 15.55 has a strange look in that the 2 market leaders both ran today 15/2/14 at Wincanton and in those conditions id be amazed if they turn them out again as both ran good races 1st and 3rd. TARABELLA and MOLLYS A DIVA ,will they turn out? PHARE ISLE has contested some better races than this ran a good 3rd at Towcester in a better race then was bang in there at this venue last time when unseating rider 2 out,one major concern is 2 /39 and one of those was a 4 horse race …JOIN THE CLAN has looked ok in novice events and now he is handicapping and also getting a longer distance  which on breeding should play to his strength i would expect him to start showing his worth,The Alan King trained GENSTONE TRAIL WON at Huntingdon in October 2012 then had a year off ,has now had 3 comeback runs and has done ok without being too big a player with the stable now in better shape I expect him to be competitive in this although suspicion is good ground may suit her better . Can see this race cutting up though .

MARKET RASEN 1420  MAGIC SKYLINE  3/1  (4 POINTS WIN)   ROSSLYN CASTLE 10/1 (2 PTS E/W)

MARKET RASEN  1450 RUMBLE OF THUNDER 5/1 (5 PTS WIN)  NEW YEARS EVE 9/4 (4 POINTS WIN)

MARKET RASEN  1555  PHARE ISLE  7/1  (2 PTS E/W)   JOIN THE CLAN 7/1 ( 2 PTS E/W)

25 POINTS STAKED

15 POINTS PROFIT

Racingfront Northern N/H (Musselburgh 12/2/14)

Musselburgh

Tuesday at Ayr gave us a winner in STONEBROOK who we adv at 13/8 previous night and went off odds on(sorry abt that) and we had a  placer with MADAM LILIBET getting 3rd at a nice 10/1 ,all in all a small loss on the day of around 4 points .

Onto Musselburgh on Wednesday and a decent looking card which kicks off with a long distance amateur riders handicap and a few with chances FOZZY MOSS fianlly got off the mark last time out at Carlisle over 3 m 1f has been raised for that but Cath Waltons experience should balance that out . Chris Grants TEARS FROM HEAVEN won here 2 years ago in a 3 mile chase and took advantage of a good handicap mark to win at Wetherby last May ,entitled to have needed the run here in November and duly improved on that to finish 3rd here in January definitely looks a player in this .Bottom weight THE SHRIMP is only 7 and has won a point race seen him in his last 2 races and looks a chaser for sure and his last run was an improvement and if he finally getting to grips he could run a race here from such a low mark and out of the weights.GET READY TO GO was made favourite for his last run, surprising as he had been of for best part of a year and he ran a fantastic race for his new connections to finish 3rd only being outpaced from about 3 out where he kept on well ,if he does not bounce from that I expect him to be close to winning this.

The 15.15 is a hurdle over 2m 4f and sees a field of 15 go to post and a competitive race in store , the Amos yard bring recent Sedgefield winner WILLIE HALL  north to try to follow-up despite a 7 pound rise he still looks well treated on previous form . The Donohue yard send over top weight  SEANCILL OIR and the booking of Nick de Boinville loooks interesting, the horse has some really decent hurdle form in Ireland his most recent run finishing 15 l behind easy Ayr winner Layla Joan now looks even better and this one will have a chance.Point to Point winner BLUE KASCADE was well supported at Kelso but never got into the race, he ran a much better race at Carlisle last time out when finishing 4th.

The 2 mile handicap hurdle at 15.50 and John Quinn sets a puzzle by saddling 2 really good prospects in recent Doncaster winner FORCED FAMILY FUN and his new inmate who came from Ireland and Gordon Elliotts yard FISHER. The first mentioned FORCED FAMILY FUN took to his first handicap in fine style at Doncaster winning a good race by 1/2 length ,has been raised 8 pound for that but looks very progressive , the other FISHER was flat winner for David Nicholls before joining Elliott where he won a few and improved with each race finally finishing 3rd in a grade 2 race at Leopordstown, has  been off for 413 days now and has joined Quinns yard so a lot has to be taken on trust with regards his fitness . FIGARO ran a couple of really good races to finish runner-up ,he was with Haggis on the flat and has travelled a long way for this . An interesting runner is  SIR PITT  who finished 5th in the 2011 triumph hurdle just behind Zarkandar for Alison Thorpes stable ,was a flat winner as well and although has only run 3 times since that Triumph race  he was entitled to need his 2 recent runs for Peter Bowen where he finished a close 4th at Ffos Llas then 2nd at Doncaster, so shown that some of that ability is still there ,has since joined the Groucott yard ,decent jockey booking and is on a workable mark.

MUSSLEBURGH   13.40 TEARS FROM HEAVEN 5/1 (2 PTS WIN)   GET READY TO GO 6/1 (2 PTS WIN)

MUSSELBURGH   15.15 WILLIE HALL  9/2 (4 PTS WIN)    SEANCILL OIR  10/1  (2 PTS E/W)

MUSSELBURGH   15.50 FORCED FAMILY FUN 9/4 (4 PTS WIN)   SIR PITT 12/1 (2 PTS E/W)

Racingfront Northern N/H (Ayr 11/2/14)

Ayr

Ayr Starts of 3 days of Scottish National Hunt action followed by Musselburgh on Wednesday and Kelso on Thursday and hopefully a few winners to be found.Ayr has an inspection planned for 730 on Tuesday Morning.

The 14.55 race a 2 mile 4 furlong hurdle sees a couple of our favourites on the blog with recent course and distance winner and victor in this race last year ANCIENT TIMES for the Phil Kirby yard who have hit a good patch with recent winners ,the 2nd recently at Ayr opposes today W SIX TIMES is another who is going the right way and improving with every run both these have been hiked up for that recent Ayr run however although both enjoy this ground so could not be discounted. MADAM LILIBET looked back to her old self last time out at Newcastle when runner-up in a decent little handicap this one had won over hurdles last winter then won a couple of distance handicaps on the flat in the summer and remains on a good mark.Te Ewart team saddle and interesting recruit in THORLAK who is a half-brother to top class Azertyuiop ,his first 3 runs were moderate to say the least however his last run was lot more promising and now handicapping im sure the yard will get the best out of him worth watching for any market support. One I noted on his recent runs was the Dalgleish trained MILLERS REEF who had looked to have forgotten how to race with previous yard but the move seems to have rejuvenated him and his win at Wetherby was followed by him unseating his rider on the bend  at Southwell however he was going really well at that point and if that’s not done any harm to his confidence I  expect him to be a big player in this.

The opening race sees Jim Goldie saddling recent Musselburgh 2nd TITUS BOLT that was quite a hot little handicap and this in theory should not be such a test,The only others i can see figuring are the Irish raider MOSS STREET who has some interesting form lines including a 3rd to highly rated Plinth one worry is his 2 recent runs have been largely poor and both were on heavy going which may not suit him.The other one I like is STONEBROOK for the McCain yard with the champ on board, this dual NH flat winner made a very good start over hurdles at Wetherby staying on nicely behind a couple of nice horses and should improve again for that .

AYR 1455  MILLERS REEF  7/2 ( 5 PTS WIN)          MADAM LILIBET 11/1 (2 PTS E/W)

AYR 1350  STONEBROOK  13/8 ( 4 PTS WIN)         TITUS BOLT 3/1 ( 3 PTS WIN)

MILLERS REEF + STONEBROOK

MILLERS REEF + TITUS BOLT

Racingfront Northern N/H (Doncaster 6/2/14)

Doncaster

A fantastic day at Musselburgh on Sunday with 2 nice winners RUMBLE OF THUNDER 7/1 and ERICHT 5/2 and two placed horses in CROWNING JEWEL 3RD at 10/1 and LOCAL HERO 2nd at 8/1 ,so a good day and all well paid for with these .

Been a quiet week so far but onto Doncaster and a decent card with a few nice types.

The 15.00 is a good 3 mile chase and a few come into the reckoning Richard Lee’s good staying chaser KNOCK A HAND  NR won a nice race at Carlisle back in December on Heavy ground and looked a right prospect winning by 12 lengths, his trainer obviously thinks a lot of him as he proceeded to enter him in the  Welsh National where he pulled up on the Heavy ground and the distance was just too much of a slog on that occasion,he then took in a Grade 2 event at Haydock and finished 3rd of 4 beaten a log way by two good class horses,he has now dropped back to his winning mark and has eased in grade both of which should enable him to be in the shake up.HARRY THE VIKING has won here twice before finishing 2nd in the 4mile nh  chase at the festival in 2012,he has been a bit out of sorts since then but was made favourite on his reappearance here in December and has dropped to very attractive mark ,blinkers on for the first time might help and he should strip a lot fitter this time. The Walford trained FENTARA has some good form to her name and ran a cracker last time out at Newcastle when 2nd splitting two very decent horses,is prone to jumping errors so it would be taking on trust that the jumping holds. The Sue Smith yard continues in good form and FILL THE POWER had some really good runs last term and a thorough stayer who likes to bowl along in front and seems to enjoy that ,had a run in January which was his first for 9 months and will have helped with the fitness.STORM SURVIVOR comes into the race on the back of two poor runs had been in good from prior to that but would not want it too soft.

The 15.35 sees recent winner TOP BILLING return to the scene of that triumph and he certainly won with any amount in hand , has been raised a whopping 16 pounds for that to a career high mark but one still to be considered although may not be best value. The Henderson yard send ONE CONEMARA who Dead-Heated   in a bumper ,then won a ludlow maiden hurdle last term ,has not really gone on from that ,was running a decent race on this years debut when falling 3 out and a few winners have since emerged from that race ,the step up to 3 mile should be to his advantage and Geraghty in the saddle is positive.Nicky Richards horse STREAMS OF WHISKEY has been chasing and won at Hexham in October then in both preceding races he held every chance when falling at the last at Ayr and then the 2nd last at Newcastle, back over hurdles he is on a good mark and has to be treated with respect in this.

DONCASTER 15.00  STORM SURVIVOR  7/1  (3PTS E/W)      HARRY THE VIKING 6/1 (3 PTS WIN)

DONCASTER 15.35  ONE CONEMARA 7/2 (4PTS WIN)      STREAMS OF WHISKEY 6/1 (3PTS WIN)

STORM SURVIVOR  7/1 + ONE CONEMARA 7/2 (1PT DBLE)

STORM SURVIVOR 7/1 + STREAMS OF WHISKEY 6/1 (1 PT DBLE)

HARRY THE VIKING 6/1 + ONE CONEMARA 7/2 (1 PT DBLE)

HARRY THE VIKING  6/1 + STREAMS OF WHISKEY 6/1 (1 PT DBLE)
